Yaoshin Shuzo Film Exhibition Opens on July 13 at USE Sake Garden — Free Admission

2000x670

USE Electronics Co., Ltd. is pleased to present the Yaoshin Shuzo Film Exhibition, held at USE Sake Garden from July 13 to September 13, 2023, with free admission for all visitors. As part of our ongoing efforts to promote Japanese sake culture, we aim to provide the public with a deeper understanding of traditional brewing techniques and the philosophy behind Japan's sakemaking heritage.

Founded in 1877, Yaoshin Shuzo is a historic sake producer from Yamaguchi Prefecture that continues to uphold its tradition of brewing with whole rice. Guided by its motto, "Life Begins at the Water's Edge," the brewery remains dedicated to crafting each bottle with sincerity and an unwavering pursuit of exceptional flavor.

This special exhibition explores the story of Yaoshin Shuzo and its celebrated brand "GANGI." In the past, the area in front of the brewery served as a riverside dock where rice transported from upstream was unloaded along a terraced wooden pier known as "GANGI."

The exhibition's theme, "Inochi" (Life), invites visitors to experience the inspiration and beliefs of President Hisashige Kobayashi, the fifth‑generation owner who established the GANGI brand to express the vitality born along the water's edge.

President Kobayashi approaches sake brewing with the sensibility of an artist and craftsman. Through heartfelt reflections, he shares the emotional journey of sake brewing, often using musical metaphors to illustrate his philosophy. He describes how the brewing environment and tools must be suited to their purpose, much like how a young violinist begins with a small violin. He also believes that the role of the brewmaster is not to let the sake "listen to music," but to listen to the sake itself—watching over the fermentation mash with the careful attention of a parent listening to the gentle breathing of a newborn child. Through this exhibition, we hope visitors will experience the "life" nurtured along the riverside that gave birth to GANGI.
