SHOCHU STREET IN TAIPEI Concludes Successfully, Showcasing the Diverse Appeal of Kagoshima Shochu

"Minami no Takarabako Kagoshima SHOCHU STREET IN TAIPEI" concluded successfully on August 23. Over the two-day event, visitors participated in tastings, cocktail experiences, and exchanges with distillery representatives, discovering the diverse appeal of Kagoshima shochu. 

 

USE Electronics Co., Ltd., together with its represented brands Hamada Syuzou, Komasa Jyozo, and Satsuma Shuzo, participated in the event. We would like to thank the representatives from each distillery for sharing insights into shochu production, from fermentation and distillation to blending and maturation. 

 

Komasa Jyozo: Discovering Shochu Through Banana and Muscat Aromas 

Representatives from the distillery introduced Kozuru the Banana and Kozuru the Muscat, using the fruit-forward aromas and flavors of these two products to explain the fermentation, distillation, and blending techniques behind shochu production.

Satsuma Shuzo: A Refined Expression of Shochu 

Satsuma Shuzo's signature barley shochu Kannoko is matured in oak barrels, creating a smooth and rounded character. Whisky enthusiasts may also recognize familiar barrel-aged aromas in this shochu. 

 

Meanwhile, Ayahibiki, made using sake yeast, was well received by visitors for its vibrant green apple aroma, demonstrating a refreshing and unexpected side of shochu.

Hamada Syuzou: Recreate the Event's Popular Shochu Cocktails at Home 

Hamada Syuzou presented a variety of shochu cocktails at the event. DAIYAME, CHILL GREEN spicy & citrus, and CHILL GREEN bitter & tropical became major highlights, offering visitors the opportunity to enjoy different styles of shochu-based drinks. With just a few simple ingredients, these cocktails can easily be recreated at home.

DAIYAME Berry

Add the following ingredients to a 350 ml glass: 

  • 2 tablespoons of berry jam (blueberry or raspberry) 
  • Half a glass of ice 
  • 60 ml DAIYAME 
  • 7UP or sparkling water to taste 
Stir well before serving. The sweet-tart berry flavors pair beautifully with DAIYAME's aromatic character, creating a refreshing and fruit-forward drink. 
 
CHILL GREEN Maqaw

Mix shochu and sparkling water at a 1:2 ratio. Add lemon slices and rosemary to highlight the distinctive spice and citrus notes of Maqaw. 

 
CHILL GREEN Hop

Mix shochu and sparkling water at a 1:2 ratio, then add grapefruit slices. The citrus aroma complements the subtle bitterness of hops, creating a refreshing drink with a clean finish.

No Limits to Enjoying Shochu 

In Japan, shochu is commonly enjoyed on the rocks, with water, or mixed with oolong tea and green tea. At home, it can also be paired with fruit, jam, or sparkling water to suit individual preferences.
